House wiring is designed with parallel circuits. The circuit breakers in your meter box each control a parallel branch of wiring. All of the lights or power points from on circuit breaker are also connected in parallel.
The electrical devices in your home are all designed to need a certain voltage. If the voltage is too high or too low, they don’t work well, or at all.
Write a paragraph or two to justify the decision to use parallel circuits for house wiring. Be sure to include:
- What happens to the voltage and current in series circuits.
- What happens to the voltage and current in parallel circuits.
- What happens to a circuit when one of the loads is removed (e.g. it is switched off or unplugged).
- How electrical devices are designed.
