D4: Infectious disease transmission — A level

Governments employ people to help look after the health of everybody in a country. State and regional health departments also pay people to try to keep people healthy in their area.

Part of keeping people healthy is having a plan to manage diseases. Communicating the plan simply is very important, because it helps doctors, hospitals, and ordinary people to know the plan for how to respond to disease.

Create an informative poster. Use Canva.

The poster needs to provide instructions for what to do about

• An endemic disease
• An epidemic
• A pandemic

In order to create your poster, do some research about how endemic diseases, epidemics, and pandemics are managed.

In other words, what should the health department do?

Here are some tips:

• Use pictures and diagrams.
• Don’t use many words.
• Just provide the “big picture” - you don’t need a lot of detail
• Include a list of actions that need to be taken, in the order they need to happen.
• If you need examples to make it easier, use ringworm for the endemic disease, the annual winter influenza epidemic, and SARS for the pandemic

Your teacher may even print and display your poster if it’s really good.
